Troy Kennedy Martin

Troy Kennedy Martin ( * February 15, 1932 in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland, † 15 September 2009 in Ditchling, East Sussex, England ) was a British screenwriter.

Life

Kennedy Martin attended Trinity College in Dublin. He began his career in 1958 as a scriptwriter for the BBC. In 1961 he wrote his first television series, a six divider called storyboard. The following year he was involved in the development of Z -Cars, one of the most successful British crime series of the 1960s, and wrote screenplays for the first two seasons. In 1969 he wrote the screenplay for his first major feature film, Charlie dusty million from starring Michael Caine in the lead role, which was remade in 2003 starring Mark Wahlberg as The Italian Job. He wrote as a consequence the screenplays for war films Kelly's Heroes with Clint Eastwood and the second command with Daria Halprin. The mid-1970s he also worked for the TV series code name Seeney, which was created by his brother Ian Kennedy Martin.

In 1983 he wrote the twelve-part series Reilly, Ace of Spies with Sam Neill in the title role, which was awarded a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe. In 1985 he was a six-part series The plutonium affair, which was awarded six BAFTA Awards. Among the prize winners Eric Clapton and Michael Kamen were for the best music. In the late 1980s he turned back to the movie theater and wrote among other things the script for Arnold Schwarzenegger action-comedy Red Heat.

Kennedy Martin was divorced and had two children.
