Troy University Arboretum

The Troy University Arboretum, formerly known under the name " Troy State University Arboretum ", is a 30 acre, publicly accessible arboretum near the Troy campus of Troy University, the University of Troy, Alabama.

The Troy Arboretum

The arboretum is under the Department of biological sciences and environmental of the College of arts and sciences.

It has over 300 different tree species from the southeastern United States and southern Alabama, the Wiregrass region. In addition, it has a further 1.6 hectares of part included 4 km long nature trail with a creek and a pond, and the 10th km to the east of Troy smaller " Pocosin Nature Preserve ," a marsh nature reserve.

The teaching and research program of the College is complemented by a herbarium.

The Troy Herbarium

Founded in 1954, Troy University Herbarium houses over 35,000 species, mostly vascular plants ( Tracheophyta ), plus a collection of moss and lichen from the southeastern United States and southern Alabama. Annual input of around 3,000 species, making it one of the smaller regional herbaria. Copies of Troy Herbarium are covered with pictures in a database.
