The Truse is a good 18 km long right tributary to the Werra on the southwestern slope of the Thuringian Forest.
Course
It arises as an island of water on the southern slope of the Big Island Mountain at the Rennsteig and flows through the towns of Brotterode, Trusetal and Fambach to finally at Breitungen to lead the district Herrenbreitungen into the Werra.

The water supplied from the from the Truse artificial Trusetaler waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Thuringian Forest.
Since the Middle Ages the Truse was indispensable for the operation of a variety of mills, hammer mills and smelters.
