Truth or Consequences is a small town in New Mexico, United States. It is the county seat of Sierra County. In 2000 they had a total of 7289 inhabitants.

History

Originally called the town of Hot Springs. On March 31, 1950, the citizens of the town decided by 1294 to 1295 votes, rename it according to the game show Truth or Consequences by Ralph Edwards. Edwards had promised to produce the broadcast in the city, which takes as first the name of the show. Today its name from the population of New Mexico is usually abbreviated to T or C.

The city is a popular tourist and retirement home, which is also due to the low construction costs. Golf, hiking and fishing are the most popular leisure activities in and around the city. The well-known British photographer Nick Waplington has documented the late 1990s the place, the people and their daily lives and the landscape around T or C in an illustrated book.
