Tsughrughasheni Church

Zughrughascheni (Georgian წუღრუღაშენი ) is a Georgian Orthodox church in the Georgian region of Lower Kartli in the municipality Bolnisi, about two kilometers from Bolnisi Sioni, on the right bank of the river Bolnissiszqali. In an inscription King Giorgi and the builder of the church Hasan, son of arsenic are called. According to the researcher Renée Schmerling is referred to in the inscription King Giorgi Giorgi IV Lasha, therefore, the church was built in the period 1212-1222.

The Zughrughascheni Church stylistically similar to the churches from the 12th - 13th Century, so Betania, Kwatachewi, Pitareti. However, it is slightly smaller and has a higher dome. The floor plan of the building is rectangular. The apse is flanked by two two-storey side rooms. The church is, especially on the dome, richly decorated with Georgian traditional ornaments.
