Tsutomu Minakami

Mizukami Tsutomu (Japanese水上 勉, as the pseudonym Tsutomu Minakami reading; born March 8, 1919 in Fukui Prefecture, † September 8, 2004 in Wakasa, Fukui Prefecture) was a Japanese writer. He wrote stories, detective stories, biographies and plays.

Life

Mizukami was born the second of five Söhne's a carpenter in Fukui Prefecture. He studied at Ritsumeikan University in Japanese literature, but did not complete the study due to financial and health reasons. After the Second World War Koji Uno (宇 野 浩 二) became his mentor. In 1952 he published his autobiographical work Furaipan no uta, which became a bestseller. For nearly a decade Mizukami published no writings. In 1960, he took with Umi no kiba, which is about the Minamata disease, his literary career as a crime writer again.

1975 received the Mizukami - Jun'ichirô Tanizaki Prize for his autobiography Ikkyu (一 休).
