Tsvetanka Khristova

Zwetanka Christowa ( Bulgarian Цветанка Христова, English transcription Tsvetanka Khristova, . Born March 14, 1962 in Kazanlak, † November 14, 2008 ibid ) was a Bulgarian discus thrower and former World Champion.

She had her first major international success when she won in Athens gold at the European Athletics Championships in 1982. Four years later came the silver medal at the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart. The following year she presented on April 14, 1987 in her home town of Kazanlak with 73.22 m the current Bulgarian record.

In each case a bronze medal she won at the World Cup 1987 in Rome and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

In 1991, she won gold at the World Championships in Tokyo, and the following year she won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. In the 1997 World Cup they did not come on the first round out.

At 42, she competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, but did not have the preliminaries out.

In her last years she worked as a trainer.

Zwetanka Christowa died on 14 November 2008 at the age of 46 from cancer.
