Tufts Medical Center (MBTA-Station)

Tufts Medical Center (formerly New England Medical Center) is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the metro line to the Orange Line and Silver Line bus route. The station was named after the Tufts Medical Center, beside which it is located.

History

The underground room was already created in 1968 as part of the completion of the South Cove tunnel and was originally intended to be a station after the planned relocation of the Washington Street Elevated (due to the planned construction of Interstate 695 ) take. In fact, the I-695 was never built, the Washington Street Elevated remained unused in operation and the space. Only in the context of the relocation of the Orange Line in the South West Corridor station New England Medical Center was opened together with eight other new buildings on 4 May 1987. On 20 July 2002, the station to the network of Silverline 5 was tied, and on 15 October 2009 was followed by the link to the Silverline 4 On 19 March 2010, the station was due to the renaming of the New England Medical Center also in Tufts Medical Center renamed.

Metro Station has a total of two tracks, which are accessible via two side platforms.

Building

The metro station is located between the Kneeland Street in Chinatown and the Massachusetts Turnpike below a wing of the building of the eponymous Tufts Medical Center, which spans at this point the Washington Street. The building is completely accessible.

As part of the Arts on the Line of the MBTA project the multi-part work of art "Caravan " by Richard Gubernick was installed in the station. It consists of four abstract aluminum reliefs which are attached to the walls of the escalator. Outside the station two granite columns are beyond ( "Mr. Yee is in the Garden" by Maria Gordett and "The Great World Transformed " by Gish Jen ) with engraved texts.

Surroundings

At the station there is a connection to two bus lines as well as the Silver Line lines 4 and 5 of the MBTA.
