Turbomeca Palouste

The Turbomeca Palouste was a turbo air supplier of the French manufacturer Turbomeca. It was developed in the early 1950s and remained until the mid-1960s in production.

The Palouste based in its interpretation on the Turbomeca Artouste and used the combustion chamber and turbine and the auxiliary drives. The main difference is the larger compressor, which allows to extract the compressed air to the engine through a nozzle. This compressed air could be used, for example, as a medium for driving the blade tip of helicopter rotors. First was a quantity of about 0.85 kg / s of compressed air available, but was still significantly increased.

The uprated Palouste IV was 1221 Djinn standard used in this way as air compressor for the helicopter Sud -Ouest SO in production. Until 1963 390 Palouste were ordered and sold.

A licensed production took place in the UK at Blackburn and Bristol Siddeley, and in the U.S. at Continental.
