The Turk Telekom Arena is a football stadium in Istanbul, which is the new home of Galatasaray Istanbul since 15 January 2011. It replaced the much smaller Ali Sami Yen Stadium from the venue, which was demolished later.

Construction

The stadium model was presented to the press on 17 May 2007. The new stadium is built in Seyrantepe north of Istanbul. In addition to the arena is the motorway O -2, the journey ends allows easy access. Below the site as a car park for 2,900 cars is provided. In addition, an underground connection is directly to the stadium. The Arena offers 52 650 spectators, 2,650 spaces are provided for the visiting fans available. Below the playing field a soil heating was installed.

Inside the stadium, there are over 190 boxes, 5,500 VIP seats, fan shop, fast food restaurants, VIP restaurants, kiosks, the club museum and the offices of the stadium management. It is also considering whether to build a sports hall for the basketball team of Galatasaray next to the stadium. Construction was December 14, 2007. The stadium was expected to be completed on 29 October 2010, but the construction was delayed, so the 15 January 2011 it was announced as the official date.

For the architecture of the arena the German architectural firm asp Stuttgart was responsible. The company was also responsible for the conversion of the Mercedes -Benz Arena. The construction costs, are estimated at 128 million euros.

Opening

The football stadium was opened on 15 January 2011 with a friendly match between Galatasaray and Ajax Amsterdam. The game ended 0-0. As the infrastructure is still under construction around the stadium, the club decided to sell for this and other games this season, only about 40,000 tickets per game.

The first Süper Lig match between Galatasaray and Sivasspor, 23 January 2011 ended 1-0 (0-0 ). The first goal came in the same game, Servet Çetin for Galatasaray.

Name

The whole complex was named as Aslantepe Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi. Before the announcement of the stadium name, the stadium in the media was called Seyrantepe, after the district where the facility is located. In December 2007, Galatasaray confirmed that the home of the Lions, Aslantepe is hot.

The main sponsor of Galatasaray Turk Telekom, bought the naming rights for the arena. The term is ten years and there is an option for an extension of five years. Since the opening of the stadium Turk Telekom Arena or Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi Türk Telekom Arena is called and was the first stadium in Turkey, wearing a sponsors name.

In the U-20 World Cup six group matches, two knockout round, quarter -finals, the 3rd place match and the final were played.

Other Terms

In addition to games of the club, a concert was held for the first time on July 8, 2011. Bon Jovi were the first band to a concert at the Arena. On 7 June 2012 as part of their tour MDNA Madonna also gave a concert at the Turk Telekom Arena.

Record

In the 2012/13 season Galatasaray sold 41,000 season tickets, which was a record in Turkish football. This number of season tickets sold was even improved a season later Galatasaray with 44,000.
