Turkish constitutional referendum, 2007

In Turkey, a referendum on fundamental changes to the Turkish constitution was held on 21 October 2007. The constitutional amendment proposals were presented by the parliamentarians of the ruling AK Party. They were approved by the voters by an absolute majority, they voted 68.95 percent in favor. The turnout was 67.51 percent.

Results

The outcome of the referendum was still uncertain just before election day. While the government presented survey results that emanated from an agreement of 85 %, were in other surveys, the enemy just ahead. Of the 42,690,252 registered voters, 67.51 % went to the vote. According to the result were 68.95 % of the votes for the constitutional reform. In about nine-tenths of all the 81 provinces of the constitutional amendments were adopted. Provinces who voted in the negative, are concentrated along the Mediterranean coast and Thrace.
