Turkish Cup

The Turkish Football Cup ( Turkish Türkiye Kupası ) is discharged since 1962 national cup competition for Turkish club teams. The competition is organized annually by the Turkish Football Federation ( TFF) and is named after the Turkish championship the second most important national title in club football.

Current title holder is Fenerbahce, record cup winners with 14 titles Galatasaray.

History

In the season 1962/63 the Turkish Cup was held for the first time.

The first final of the Cup was held with return game. In the final, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce met. Both the first leg and the second leg was 2-1 Galatasaray decided for himself and became the first winner of Türkiye Kupasi.

Name

From the season 1962/63 to 1979/80 season was the Cup Türkiye Kupası, then until 1991/92 Federasyon Kupası. From the 1992/93 season, he was again called Türkiye Kupası. The tournament was from the 2005/06 season as Fortis Türkiye Kupası the name of the sponsor Belgian Fortis, this ended in 2009. Since the 2009/10 season is, the competition Ziraat Türkiye Kupası. Ziraat is the largest Turkish universal bank.

Mode

There are 4 qualifying rounds without leg, followed by the final round, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The final rounds will be played on neutral ground, there is also no return match. Event of a draw, there are two times 15 minutes extra time, followed by penalty shootout.

In the first qualifying round start in the two groups each with 8 best teams in the previous season of TFF Lig 2 and the teams in the previous season of the TFF Lig 3 have risen. These are a total of 22 teams.

In the second qualifying round, the 11 teams that have won will be drawn against the losers of the Süper Lig and the 8 best teams in the TFF 1 Lig, which could not ascend. The remaining 6 teams of TFF 1 Lig be drawn against each other. It come on a total of 14 teams.

In the third qualifying round of the 14 teams in the 2.Qualifikationsrunde meet the 14 best teams in the Süper Lig, the 15th of the Süper Lig and the 3 improving the TFF 1 Lig be drawn against each other. There a total of 16 teams qualify for the fourth round.

In the fourth qualifying round, the 16 teams will be divided into compound and unseeded teams and drawn against each other.

The quarter-finals will be played on one, determined by the TFF neutral ground. The semi-finals are set during the draw for the quarter-finals.

Before the season 2011/12, there was a group stage, followed by the quarterfinals. Since 2000, the teams play only once in the final. In the years before there was a first leg and a second leg.

International participation

If the winner has qualified on the Süper Lig for the Champions League or takes part in the Champions League qualification, the right to participate in the UEFA Europa League is automatically transferred to the loser of the final match. If both finalists already qualified on the Süper Lig for the Champions League or Europa League, attracts the best-placed club in the Süper Lig, who is not qualified for at least the UEFA Europa League, into this.
