Twelve Apostles of Ilkley Moor

The Twelve Apostles (German Twelve Apostles ) in Burley Moor are a Bronze Age stone circle in West Yorkshire, England near the " Cow and Calf rocks", 380 m above sea level. MSL.

The circle now has eleven stones. While St. Ross assumes that one is missing, goes A. Raistrick assume that it was originally about 20 that were set in the circle of about 16 meters in diameter, within a stone rampart. The circle is somewhat similar to those found in Derbyshire " embanked Stone Circle ". None of the stones is particularly large, the largest of which measures less than 1.5 m high.

There are theories that the stones were used to observe the motion of the moon, the sun or other celestial body, but because the space in the past has been altered, this is difficult to prove.

Often the circle in the Ilkley Moor is locates. He is however in Burley Moor, which is part of the larger Rombald 's Moores. Nearby is the rock carvings lie in the Ilkley Moor.
