When Two Knights in Nachzuge is an opening of the chess game, which is divided into several variants. The Two Knights in Nachzuge one of the most open-ended games and is classified in the opening system of the ECO codes C55- C59 under the keys.

History

The name Two Knights in Nachzuge means that the second player at the start of the game after the development of the king's pawn first developed his two Springer and thus starts a counter attack to the point e4.

The earliest analysis of this opening comes from the Italian master Giulio Cesare Polerio from 1560. During the first half of the 19th century were made re- investigation by the Berlin School, led by Paul Rudolph of Bilguer. The Two Knights in Nachzuge was therefore formerly known in the chess literature as Prussian defense.

Variants

  • 4 Nb1 - c3

The coverage of the farmer with 4 Nb1 - c3 allows the sham sacrifice 4 ... Sf6xe4, attempt to secure in the center with the black space advantage, after 5 Sc3xe4 wins the black with the farmer fork d7 -d5 back the figure.

The most common retort to black 4 Nf3 - g5 is immediately d7 -d5, and then the game goes into the Prussian game after 5 e4xd5. 4 ... c5 Bf8 yields the double-edged Traxler counterattack.

  • 4 d2 -d4

After d2 -d4 e5xd4 5 0-0 Bf8 - c5 or 5 ... Sf6xe4 6 Tf1 - e1 d7 -d5 7 8 Nb1 - c3 Lc4xd5 Dd8xd5 Qd5 - a5 9 Sc3xe4 goes the game in the Max - Long - attack.

The modern variant leads to Bf8 - c5 in the Italian game.
