UA Gaillac

Union Athlétique Gaillacoise (short UA Gaillac ) is a rugby union club based in the French town of Gaillac in the Tarn department. He is represented in the fourth highest league Fédérale 2. The home games are played at the Stade Laborie Bernard Laporte. It is named after Bernard Laporte, the former coach of the national team, who was until 1984 the junior section of the UA Gaillac.

History

The club was founded in 1901 under the name Stade Gaillacois. In 1905 it was renamed Stade Athlétique Gaillacois. In December 1940, the Vichy regime forced all sports clubs in cities under 50,000 residents to join together to form larger units, in Gaillac arose as a result of this measure, the Union Athlétique Gaillacoise. Since then, the sections for football, boxing, tennis, athletics, swimming and volleyball club which are connected. 1948 merged the club with that of the railway workers and called itself the Union Athlétique Cheminots de Gaillac; two years later, however, led the old name again.

After several regional titles, the UA Gaillac in 1959 was promoted to the third division, and in 1961 in the second division. From 1968 to 1978, the club was represented in the highest division, and then slipped back into the lower amateur leagues. 2001 abolished the UA Gaillac promotion to the highest amateur league Fédérale 1, in 2006, the club won the title of French amateur champion and rose to the second highest league Pro D2. Due to massive financial difficulties Gaillac was the end of the 2006/07 season no professional license and was more zwangsrelegiert in the Fédérale 3.
