Ub, Serbia

Ub ( Serbian Уб ) is a municipality in Okrug Kolubara in Serbia. 2002 there were 6018 people in the city.

Location

The Route 22 (E 763 from Belgrade to Bijelo Polje ) in the east is about 12 km. After Kozeljeva and Druzetic in the West there are 10 miles and Valjevo in the southwest is 20 km away. The nearest international Aerodrome Nikola Tesla Beograd Airport is about 44 km away.

History

Prehistoric traces evidence of an early settlement of the area around Ub. So was found in Trlica, Kalinovac and Brgule remains of the Vinča culture (ca. 5000 BC). Near the village Čučuge discovered objects from the Bronze Age.

Origin of the name

According to legend, the word " Ub " is a derivation from the Latin word " urbs " = "place".

After Slavic legends of the place was built in the reign of Prince Kocelj and named after his brother Slavoljub. In the course of time, the name has been shortened to " Ub ".

Economy

There are several mines and resource centers of coal ( Radljevo field - 344 million tones, Zvizdar field - 280 million tones), clay, sand, stone and limestone. The largest manufacturer of quartz sand in Serbia is " Kopovi ad" with a total production of about 400,000 tons per year. The municipality of Ub is the largest supplier of high-quality sound in Serbia.

Sports

The football club FK Jedinstvo Ub was founded in 1920. There already played the Yugoslav footballer Dragan Dzajic.
