Úbeda

Úbeda is a town in the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia in the province of Jaén. On January 1, 2013, it counted 35,514 inhabitants, making it the third largest city of the province. Died here in 1591, St. John of the Cross.

Events

Ubeda was also known for a place in 1997 found chess tournament with Joël Lautier (France) as the winner and Alexander Beliavsky (Slovenia ), Evgeny Bareev (Russia ) and Alexander Khalifman on the courts.

Attractions

Together with the 10 km from town of Baeza is Úbeda since 2003 on the List of World Heritage by UNESCO because of the role of the two cities as a pioneer of the Renaissance in Spain and the spread of humanist ideas of Renaissance architecture in other countries. A Renaissance palace in Plaza de Vázquez Molina is used as a Parador.
