Uchaly (town)

Utschaly ( Bashkir and Russian Учалы ) is a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia) with 37,788 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the eastern flank of the Southern Urals, about 450 km southeast of the capital Ufa Republic

Utschaly the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

1939 copper and Zinkerzvorkommen were discovered in the area of the present city, their decomposition began in 1955. The resulting mining settlements Malyje Utschaly ( Малые Учалы, small Utschaly, also Malo-Utschalinski/Мало-Учалинский ) and Novye Utschaly ( Новые Учалы, New Utschaly ) were united in 1963 to the city Utschaly.
