Ucuetis

Ucuetis is the name of a Gallic crafts of God, who was worshiped together with his companion Bergusia in Alesia ( Alise -Sainte -Reine, Bourgogne, a Roman province Lugdunensis ).

Mention

Ucuetis is on a dedicatory inscriptions from the 2nd century AD ( keltoromanische time) once mentioned to his companion Bergusia in Latin. This inscription was discovered in 1839-1908 on Mont Auxois, the site of the ancient Alesia. A dedication in the Gallic language, which was found near a building, bears the following text:

" Martialis Dannotali ieuru Ucuete Sosin celicnon, etic gobedbi dugiiontiio Ucuetin in [ ... ] Alisia. "

" Martialis son of Dannotalos dedicated to the Ucuetis this keliknon ( small temple? ), Together with the forging, which the Ucuetis in [ ... ] Alesia. "

A ground there aufgefundenes stone relief, the one God shows with a hammer and a goddess with fertility attributes is interpreted as Ucuetis and Bergusia. Thus Ucuetis was a god of the (metal) craftsmen. A composite of fragments of bronze vase with the names of two deities was found in a cellar, which is interpreted as a warehouse located above blacksmith shop for other bronze and iron relics.

About the Goddess Bergusia is out of these finds nothing further known.
