Udvarhely County

County Udvarhely [ udvɒrhɛj ] ( German rarely county Oderhellen; Udvarhely Vármegye Hungarian, Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ) was an administrative unit ( county, county) of the former Kingdom of Hungary ( 1001-1918 ). It is now in eastern Transylvania, central Romania.

Geography

County Udvarhely bordering on Romania and the Hungarian counties Maros - Torda, Csík, Háromszék, wholesale Kokelburg ( Nagy- Küküllő ) and small - Kokelburg ( Kis- Küküllő ). Through the county of Great Kokel flows (now Romanian Târnava Mare, otherwise the county is heavily mountainous through the foothills of the Harghita Mountains.

History

County Udvarhely was formed in 1876 when the administrative structure of Transylvania was changed from the previously existing Szeklerstuhl Udvarhelyszék of the Székely Land. 1918 was then under the name Odorhei part of Romania, was from 1940 to 1944 for a short time due to the Second Vienna Award, again under Hungarian administration and since 1960 on the three Romanian counties Harghita, Mureş ( a small part in the west) and Covasna ( a divided small part in the southeast ).
