Uebelmannia buiningii

Uebelmannia buiningii is a species of the genus Uebelmannia in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Uebelmannia buiningii grows with greenish to reddish brown, spherical to short cylindrical bodies that reach a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. The epidermis is rough by wax deposits. The straight ribs 18 have a distance of 15 millimeters. They are about 5 millimeters from each remote downward cusp divided. The areoles located on it are covered with little wool. The four central spines are crosswise. The 2 to 4 straight radial spines are up to 5 mm long and shorter than the central spines.

The yellow flowers are up to 2.7 inches long and can reach a diameter of 2 centimeters. The egg-shaped fruits are yellow and have a diameter of up to 4 millimeters

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Uebelmannia buiningii is common in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in the Serra Negra and grows on quartz gravel. The first description was in 1968 by John Donald Donald.

Uebelmannia buiningii be listed in Annex I of the CITES Convention. In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN she is known as " Critically Endangered (CR ) ', ie classified threatened with extinction.
