Ueberstorf (French Villars -les Joncs; ? Freiburg Patois Vela lè Dzon / i ) is a municipality in the district of Sense in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Geography

Ueberstorf is located on 658 m above sea level. M., 13 km east-northeast of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The village covers an overall slightly inclined to the northwest plateau of Molasseplateaus between the river valleys of Sense in the east and Tafersbach ( Taverna ) in the west, at the edge of the formerly marshy lowlands of moss, in the hill country of eastern Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​16.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes west of the scythe, in the extreme northeast of Canton. The area is bounded on the east and north by Sensetal, with the border in the north reaches down not quite to the valley. Especially in the eastern and southeastern part of the river is deeply incised into the molasse and is accompanied by steep slopes, some of which are crossed by sandstone cliffs.

Its highest peak reaches Ueberstorf on the so-called Höchi 818 m above sea level. M. Population

With 2395 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ueberstorf belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the residents 97.1 % are German, 0.9 % French-speaking and 0.2 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Ueberstorf amounted in 1900 to 1515 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 1470-1720 people. Since 1970 (1552 inhabitants), but a significant population increase was recorded, especially during the 1990s.

Economy

Ueberstorf was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and farming and fruit growing an important place in the economic structure of the population. Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In Ueberstorf operations of timber construction, the construction and transportation industries, electrical engineering, horticulture, mechanic shops and dairies are located. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Bern and Fribourg.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Flamatt to Schwarzburg. The nearest links to the motorway A12 ( Bern -Vevey ) is located approximately 4 km from the town center. History

The first mention of a place in the municipality of Ueberstorf took place in 1143 with the entry of the Lords of Mettlenstrasse who founded a small rule, which was under the series by the Counts of Kyburg, of Hapsburg and Thierstein. Center of the reign Mettlenstrasse was a no longer existing in Burg Obermettlen. Ueberstorf is called as Ibristorf in 1226 for the first time, which means village of Iburin ( Alemannic persons name). Later, the local name evolved over Jeberinsdorf and Übristorf the present Ueberstorf.

At the latest in 1442 the area came by purchase by the Counts of Thierstein under the rule of Freiburg and the Old Landscape ( Aupanner ) has been assigned. Attractions

The parish church of John the Baptist was built in 1898 on the site of an earlier building; Parts of the former house of worship, such as the tower, were taken. The attractions of Ueberstorf also includes three castles, which were built by wealthy families Freiburg. Coat of arms

1476 pulled a Ueberstorfer squad with the allied Confederates to Murten in the battle against the Burgundians. As a homage to the loyalty and support of the city of Murten gave the Ueberstorfern the right, from now on (without crown) to use the Red Murten lion as an emblem. At the beginning of the 20th century, the old coat of arms was that of the men from Mettlenstrasse ( blue-white striped) fused, making the current coat of arms was created.
