UEFA Best Player in Europe Award

The UEFA Best Player in Europe Award ( German UEFA Best Player in Europe ) is an annual award for the best football player of a European club. It has been awarded since 2011 by UEFA in partnership with European Sports Media. 2013 Price UEFA Best Player in Europe Women's Award was awarded for the best player for the first time.

The award ceremony of the men held in late August each year as part of the draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco held the award ceremony of the women followed in early September. The performance of the players in each preseason in all national and continental competitions will be judged. Prize winners in 2013 are the Frenchman Franck Ribery and German Nadine Angerer.

Formation

The award was created on the initiative by UEFA President Michel Platini, who wanted to revive the tradition for the election of the European Footballer of the Year, which was carried out since 1956 under the official designation Ballon d'Or from the French football magazine France Football. After early as 2007, players from clubs outside Europe stood for election and the 2010 award merged with the election for the FIFA world player of the year for FIFA Ballon d'Or, there had been no choice, taking into account the playing exclusively in Europe footballer. However, the nationality of the player does not play a role in this award. On 25 August 2011, the prize was first awarded at the group draw for the UEFA Champions League 2011 /12. In order for this new award replaces both the previous UEFA Club Football Awards, which is also the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and coach honored alongside the best players (until 2006) the last Champions League season. Since 2013 also the best player will be honored.

Assignment mode

The winner will be chosen by a jury of 53 sports journalists representing each one of UEFA's member states. Every journalist initially submits a list of three players. The former receives five points, the second three points and third one point. The three players with the most points form the so-called " short list ", from which the journalists vote for their favorites on the day of the ceremony by pressing a button. The players on positions four to ten will be announced along with the " short list " shortly before the election.

In the women selected for the first 2013 edition of the coaches of the national teams that took part in the European Championship in 2013, as well as the coach of the quarter-finalists last season's UEFA Women's Champions League their favorites. The 20 coaches created a list of their five favorite, which were then rated low with five points to one point. This election is the shortlist of the ten best players was created. Places four to ten followed Andrés Iniesta (Spain, Barcelona ), Radamel Falcao (Colombia, FC Porto ), Wayne Rooney (England, Manchester United), Nemanja Vidić (Serbia, Manchester United), Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden, AC Milan ), Gerard Piqué ( Spain, FC Barcelona), Manuel Neuer ( Germany, FC Schalke 04).

In the 2012 election on August 30, 2012 was Andrés Iniesta (Spain, Barcelona ), in the final 19 of the 53 votes; on Lionel Messi (Argentina, Barcelona ) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Real Madrid) each accounted for 17 votes.
