UEFA Women's Euro 1997

The European Football Championship Women 1997 (English: UEFA Women 's Championship ) was the seventh playout of the European continental championship in women's soccer and was held from June 29 to July 7 in Norway and Sweden. For the first time two countries were jointly host. Norway was after 1987 for the second time host of the tournament. The eight participants entered the first time, first in a group phase in two groups of four teams and then against each other in the knockout system.

Defending champion Germany won the final against Italy 2-0 and was the fourth time after 1989, 1991 and 1995 European champion.

The German team secured their fourth title with goals from Sandra Minnert ( 23 minutes ) and Birgit Prinz ( 50 minutes ). The final took place in front of only 2221 spectators held in Oslo and was directed by the referee Lyngo Gitte Nielsen from Denmark.
