Uerikon–Bauma railway

The Uerikon - Bauma -Bahn ( UeBB ) was a Swiss railway company.

History

Formation

The initiator of the Uerikon - Bauma -Bahn was the mill-owners Adolf Guyer-Zeller from Neuthal at Bäretswil. He wanted to create with this railway connecting the Zurich Oberland communities on the Gotthard line. At first it was planned to convert the line from Bauma even further Eschlikon in Canton Thurgau, but this was dropped. Guyer- Zeller had probably as well as personal interests on the web, he put the line but so tightly that some of its mills came to rest directly next to it. On July 29, 1885, the railway was granted the concession. As early as 1898 began with the construction and on Thursday, May 30, 1901 took place the solemn inauguration of the UeBB (popularly " Überbeibahn » called ).

Operation

The 25.3 km long line led by Uerikon Lake Zurich up to Hombrechtikon, Wolfenhausen, Bubikon, Durnten, Hinwil, Ettenhausen - Emmetschlo, Bäretswil and Neuthal Bauma according to the Tösstal web. Only five trains ran daily in each direction, and their operation was led by the Tösstal web. With the opening of two steam locomotives, four people, two baggage and 19 freight cars were put into operation. But already in the first years of operation did not meet the revenue expectations, because the rail track of UeBB did not follow the main flow of traffic in the Zurich Oberland, also often disrupted landslides operation. Already In 1903, an engineer from the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon considered whether the operation with Akkumlokomotiven could not be more cost-effective. From saving reasons, the railway introduced from 1 January 1905 operation itself. 1907 was adopted by the SBB one procured by the NOB as a loner steam railcar and set as CZm 1/2 31. Until 1948, there have been large deficits, so that the end of UeBB approaching.

Setting

In a referendum in the canton of Zurich, the reorganization of the three tracks Uerikon - Bauma -Bahn, the Uster Oetwil Railway and the Wetzikon -mile track in 1946 agreed, and the precipitated transport links, should be replaced by buses of the transport companies Zürcher Oberland ( VZO ). The section Hinwil - Bäretswil - Bauma was nationalized last private car and went to their electrification paid by the UeBB, the Swiss Federal Railways ( SBB) above. On October 9, 1947, the opening of the rebuilt line and the passenger trains of the SBB to operate until 1969 was carried out. Then they also had to give way to the bus operation. The UeBB held its operation to continue until October 2, 1948, as the delivery of the buses delayed. Soon after the rails were broken on the track Uerikon Hombrechtikon and Hinwil - Durnten. The rolling stock was sold to different railway companies.

Today is from the once hopeful opened railway line except the upper stretch Hinwil - Bauma only the industry track Wolfenhausen - Bubikon. From section Uerikon Hombrechtikon - Wolfenhausen you can make up remnants of the old route in some places: a railway embankment at the Brunegg Hill between Uerikon and Hombrechtikon, more embankments through a marsh above Uerikon and Durnten direction Edikon. In Hombrechtikon and Durnten still stand the station building without ruts.

Since 1978 is running on the Museum Railway Steam Train Society Zürcher Oberland ( DVZO ) on the weekends during the summer months, this charming stretch of Hinwil after Bauma.

The DVZO has become a licensed railway company that owns the whole infrastructure from outside the station Bauma up to and including station Bäretswil. In Neuthal 98a is a service of the DVZO in the form of the barrier post. This represents the last barrier posts with manually operated barrier in Switzerland. On the main road Bauma - Bäretswil buses in the valley today does a controlled by radio electric barrier system.

In winter the unneeded flat car of the Circus were parked knees up in the 1990s above the station Bäretswil, which in Rapperswil has its winter quarters.

On request, special trips are also in the winter months here and there instead of on the track Hinwil - Bauma.
