Geography

Uetze lies on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath, has predominantly sandy soils. It is crossed by the rivers Fuhse and Erse, which come from the Harz mountains and flow into approximately north. Northwest of Uetze opens the Erse in the Fuhse which opens at Celle in the Aller.

The municipality covers an area of approximately 140 km ².

Structure

The municipality consists of the ( formerly independent ) communes Altmerdingsen, Dedenhausen Dollbergen Eltze, Hänigsen, Katensen, Obernhagen, Schwüblingsen and the main town Uetze itself and has a total of about 20,000 inhabitants.

Each of these former municipalities has its own Ortsrat.

To place Uetze include residential places Abbeile, Benrode, Dahrenhorst and Wacker angle.

Place Uetze

The village Uetze has the largest locality as well as the other villages of the municipality of its own Ortsrat and own coat of arms. The place has 1 January 2012 7292 inhabitants.

History

The first mention was made in 1022 as " Utisson ". 1215 the location is referred to as " Utessem ". From the name of the place derives also the Squire Tight Schlecht "by Uttensen " from. A house (the " New Garden " ) next to the former seat of the von Uttensen used since its construction almost continuously as an inn.

1552 was Uetze a podestà, she was placed under the Office Meinersen. This affiliation lasted until 1885. 1695 Uetze became a market town.

A major fire destroyed on the afternoon of April 21, 1863, almost the entire village; were preserved only the Junkernhof and surrounding buildings. The volunteer fire department was established on June 5, 1880.

In 1885 the Office Meinersen was dissolved Uetze came to the district of Burgdorf.

On 16 May 1966, the last manual switchboard was shut down on the territory of the German Federal Post Office in Uetze. 1971 Uetze joined with the municipalities Dollbergen and Katensen together to Samtgemeinde, which was disbanded three years later with the formation of the current unit of Uetze again.

Uetze belonged to the Principality of Lüneburg and is therefore traditionally more oriented to Celle as to Hanover. It belonged to the district of Burgdorf and was incorporated in the municipal reform in Lower Saxony in 1974 with the other communities of this district in the county of Hanover. The Altgemeinden Dedenhausen and Eltze belonged before the local government reform in 1974 the district of Peine. In conversation was also a membership in the district of Peine or to the district of Celle, as the cities Peine and Celle are much closer and Uetze in these counties would have had more influence on future decisions. Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a curly, eight blue / gold split, running up top. The nine components of the curly top are the villages represents the colors are a reference to the previous joint affiliation with the Guelph - Lüneburg country.

The coat of arms of the village Uetze is halved. The right half shows the coat of arms of the House of Lüneburg, which was established in the 17th century in Uetze: in the upper part of the red hearts set on blue Braunschweiger lion. The bottom right quarter is only red to show that the house was founded by a bourgeois mother. The left half of the coat of arms shows three upward-pointing black arrows on yellow background. Culture and sights

Religions

Since the Reformation, the majority of the population is Evangelical Lutheran. The current " St. John the Baptist Church " at the Church Street dates back to 1867 after the previous building was destroyed in 1837 in the great fire of 1863. The architect was Conrad Wilhelm Hase. The tower is 65 m high. The congregation Uetze - Katensen part of the parish of Burgdorf.

The Catholic Church of St. Matthias, named after the apostle Matthias, located at St Mary Street. 1955/56, it was built by Josef Fehlig, and dedicated in the fall of 1956. Lakes

Near Uetze directly on the B 188 is a 120 -acre recreation area with swimming beach, camping, mobile home site. Center are two areas of water artificially created. It is the larger lake Irenensee and a water surface with various arms that operates under Spreewald lakes. Cottages are located on the banks with boat moorings. This area has been transformed in recent years into a residential area of about 200 islands located on land.

Leisure

East of Uetze is the amusement park " Erse Park" on the B 188 A well- developed and signposted cycle network runs along the river or through the extensive forests to prominent points such as the Hänigser windmill or the three water mills of the community.

In the villages Uetze and Hänigsen there are heated swimming pools and on Irenensee a large natural beach.

Regular events

The Onion Festival takes place every second weekend of September since 2003. It usually starts late Saturday afternoon, every second year with a day of volunteers, and continues on Sunday with an open-air church service on the Hindenburgplatz. Then invite associations, exhibitors and partner municipalities to different onion dishes and matching drinks.

Uetze is one of Germany's largest onion growing areas, especially for onions.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Uetze is located on the main road 188 from Burgdorf to Meinersen Gifhorn and Wolfsburg. A few kilometers east of Uetze on " Kreuzkrug " intersect with the B 188 B 214 from Braunschweig to Celle and the B 444 of Peine and Edemissen. A major highway connects Uetze also with disintegration and Eicklingen, another with Dollbergen and a third with Wehnsen.

From 1923 to 1991, Uetze a station on the railway line Celle- Brunswick.

Within the area are the stations Dollbergen and Dedenhausen on the railway line between Hanover and Berlin.

Education

Uetze has a school center with gymnasium, junior high school and high school. The catchment area of the school extends beyond the municipal boundaries.
