Ufenau

Ufenau or Ufnau (Island of UFO Offo or Ubo ) is the largest island in Switzerland and is located in Lake Zurich. The island lies with its neighboring island Lützelau near Pfäffikon. History

Diving Archaeological research has promoted around the nearby lake dam prehistoric and early historic cultural landscapes to light. South of the Ufenau came piles from the 14th - 13th Century BC to the fore, prehistoric pottery shards validate the presence of humans, although unique settlement evidence is lacking. About the year 200, during the Roman period, was a Gallo- Roman temple on the island. Its foundations are included in the foundations of the Church of St. Peter. A first church was probably built on the site of the present chapel of St. Martin in the year 500.
