Ugljan (village)

Ugljan is a town with 1070 inhabitants in the northwestern part of the island of Ugljan (Croatia).

Ugljan is the regional Road, which runs along the island and has a small harbor, can apply to the smaller yachts; an anchorage for larger vessels is located southeast of the port.

Attractions

In Ugljan there are some historical sights from early antiquity as the villa rustica, a mausoleum of late antiquity and the remains of an early Christian basilica. Furthermore, there is an old oil press from the 1st century.

At the cape on the north side of the harbor there is an old Franciscan monastery from 1430 with a single-nave Gothic church of 1447 and interesting Romanesque capitals.

Set beside the bay Batalaza remains of a Roman villa have been found, southeast remains of a prehistoric building.

Economy

Economic base are farming, viticulture, olive growing, fruit growing, fishing and tourism.
