Úhorná

Úhorná ( to 1927 Slovak Úhorná; Maple German, Hungarian Dénes - to 1902 Úhorná ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia. It lies in the valley of the river in the mountains Smolník Volovské Hills, about 21 km from Rožňava, 31 km from Gelnica and 50 km from Košice. Above the village is the Úhorná Pass is ( Úhornianske Saddleback, 999 m nm), below erected in the 18th century small reservoir ( Vodná nádrž Úhorná ).

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1383 as Ohary, as part of the reign of the castle Krasna Horka. In the 16th century settled in the place of Vlachs.

Until 1918 Úhorná belonged within the county Gemer and small Hont the Kingdom of Hungary, after which they came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Today the church is used as a " Datschagemeinde " in the summer.
