Uhry (Königslutter)

Uhry is a west of the Dorms scrim Direction district of the city Konigslutter in the district of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony. Uhry has about 156 inhabitants ( 2012).

Location

The village is located about 35 km east of Brunswick and about 20 km south of Wolfsburg. Uhry is just off the A2, on which is located close to the village of highway parking Uhry.

History

On March 1, 1974, originating from the Gifhorn community Uhry was incorporated into the city Konigslutter.

Facilities

In Uhry the Resurrection Chapel of the Evangelical Free Church congregation is Uhry ( Baptist church ). In addition Uhry together with the neighboring village Beienrode the sports club SV Beienrode / Uhry eV together with Beienrode Uhry is a volunteer fire department.

Coat of arms

Silica sand mining

Northeast of Uhry located is a mining area for silica sand. Before about 50 million years ago was located on the territory of today's Uhry a river delta, where fine sands and gravels were deposited. The white sands, which consist almost entirely of quartz sand originated. In the Saale glacial period about 200,000 years ago, a several meters thick layer of sand, gravel and large boulders was deposited on the fine sands. The largest boulder found in the sand pit has about 45 tons. It is situated at an information point on the road connecting Uhry to Rhode. From this point you have a good view of the sand pits and the resulting lakes therein.
