UIC identification marking for tractive stock

Since early 2007, all rail vehicles newly registered in Germany receive a twelve-digit number that makes a locomotive in an EU -wide Vehicle Register uniquely identifiable and largely the UIC leaflet 438-3 follows identification of locomotives. A full registration number consists of 12 digits. The first two digits represent a type code, which encode third and fourth, as with the car numbers, the country of origin. The bodies of five to eleven are freely definable by each country, the twelfth is a check digit dar. This is followed by country code and the abbreviation of the vehicle keeper.

To date August 1, 2008 and all inventory vehicles must be recorded in the register and provided with their registration number. Existing operators internal markings of the vehicles remain unaffected.

Germany

In Germany the National Vehicle Register was introduced by the Federal Railway Authority. The EBA is also responsible for the allocation of vehicle registration numbers. The national individually assignable part of this number (5th - 11th digit) consists of a four -digit serial number and the associated three-digit sequence number of the vehicle in this series.

In order to simplify the re-drawing of the German railway, the series number was chosen for stock vehicles of DB, the first of the four digits so that the previous DB number can be used without changing the check digit in the election. Only in the combustion railcars DB adjusting these control number was needed. This is not true for new vehicles of DB, as the machines, first used in 2008, the DB Series Alstom 1214. Although it is operator internally classified as Class 262, they received a register number corresponding to their series requested by the manufacturer.

The obligation to set the vehicle also register vehicles and series are detected, the never used came with the DB. This is assigned to a new series number from the EBA, which is no longer based on historical allocation system of the Deutsche Bahn. This leads railway enthusiasts to misunderstandings, because the type names are now generally four digits and not allow a conclusion on the type of vehicle more: it is also the content of the first two points, ie, the type codes are needed.

Example:

The existing series " 0128 " would be if you tried to want to read from the last three digits of a classic DB class number, lead to an electric locomotive. Since this series but in the context of the design code " 98 " is, it refers to a Rangierdiesellok. The shape of this formerly used by the Deutsche Bahn with the three-digit series designation " 3xy " or " 2xy " can no longer be found in the new series number. The classic numbers below are therefore obsolete and can only be found in the register numbers of former state railway vehicles.

Vehicles that are used in both the DB and in NE railways used to be, conducted in the same series. The distinction is possible at any time by the holder shortcuts. An advantage of the system lies in the simplicity of a holder change, because the vehicle can maintain its registration number. It is only an adaptation of the short form. In a far-reaching reconstruction, however, a change in the actual number to a more appropriate series can be necessary.

Check digit

The check digit is calculated from the first eleven digits. For this purpose, the sum of the digits of the number sequence is formed, which results when the digits alternately by 2 and multiplied by 1 ( first digit 2, with 1 second, third, again with 2, etc.); the difference between the sum of the digits to the nearest multiple of ten is the check digit. ( Example of calculation see Item to car number ) When entering into computer is performed via the check digit, a plausibility check.

Vehicle stop detection

For each RU that adjusts vehicles in the register of a pan-European unique identifier is required. This is requested via the Federal Railway Authority and is part of the endorsed number. The list of maintenance detections can be found on the pages of the European Rail Agency.
