UK Film Council

The UK Film Council was a British Filmförderungsanstalt. It was founded in 2000 by the British government.

For the first chairman ( Chairman ) of the UKFC was appointed the London-born director, screenwriter and producer Alan Parker in 2000. He was followed by the film producer Stewart Till (2004-2009) and Tim Bevan ( since 2009).

The Council was responsible for all state film funding of the Ministry for Culture, Media and Sport ( DCMS ). He was led as a private company. His goal was to develop the national film industry and culture of the country and promote. The UK Film Council was funded by the National Lottery revenue and through State resources. From 2000 to 2010, around 900 such films are promoted with over 160 million pounds.

In July 2010, the new Conservative government of David Cameron decided to disband the UK Film Council. The state film funding was not affected by the closure, administrative expenditure of around £ 3 million per year but are to be saved by this measure. Since April 2011, the British Film Institute takes over most of the tasks of the UK Film Council.
