The U01 Запоріжжя ( trans.: Zaporizhia ) (ex - Soviet B -435 ) is a Russian submarine of the project 641 It served from 1970 to 1997 in the Soviet Navy, and was thereafter until 2014 the only submarine of the Ukrainian Navy. Since March 2014, belongs to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The Zaporizhia has a crew of 78 men.

History

B -435

The boat ran in June 1970 in Leningrad B -435 from the stack.

The first two years took B -435 a total of 14 patrols across the world's oceans - up in the distant fraternal socialist Cuba. From 1972 to 1991, was mostly in its home port, and since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, rusted B -435 unused in Sevastopol on the Black Sea to himself.

Zaporizhia

With the division of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet in 1997 B -435 came into the possession of the newly formed Ukrainian Navy and was renamed U01 Zaporizhia. Overhaul

Since 2003, the Ukrainian Navy invested $ 7 million dollars to repair the submarine at least provisionally. Another 3 million dollars needs to be invested according to media so that the submarine can be sold for 50 to 70 million U.S. dollars to another state. With the proceeds from the sale of Zaporizhia other units of the Ukrainian fleet should be repaired.

The Zaporizhia was under the command of Captain Oleg Orlov.

Acquisition in the Russian Navy

After the annexation of Crimea to Russia as a result of Krimkrise the submarine was assumed on 22 March 2014, the Russian Black Sea Fleet. According to reports of the Ukrainian television channel 5, the U- boat was surrounded by Russian troops stormed and using stun grenades. RIA Novosti reported that the boat had been " placed in service " in the Black Sea Fleet. About half of the 78 -strong crew wanted to serve in the Russian Navy, the rest of the soldiers had left the submarine. The Zaporizhia was in poor condition and should be moved to Feodosiya where the other submarines of the Black Sea fleet lying. Logbook

From September to November 1970, the submarine was 20 days or 422 hours in use (236 Underwater, 186 overwater ) and drove 1660 miles over water and 432 miles underwater.

From June to December 1971 was the U- boat for 210 days in the Atlantic in use. It drove 18,342 miles over water and 5340 miles underwater.

Since June 1972, the Zaporizhia was almost continuously in the yard.

From July to October 1994, the submarine was again for 16 days at sea and put 243.5 miles on water and 4.2 miles back under water.

One last use was made in January 1995, before the Zaporizhia was drained again after 53 miles.

The Zaporizhia was extensively repaired in a Russian shipyard in Sevastopol, maintained and upgraded. In April 2012, they should be phased out to test drive to check the machine and major components. Finally, the three-day sea trials, during which the boat also appeared, took place in July 2012. The new Ukrainian crew was trained by the Russian Navy.
