Ulf Andersson

Ulf Andersson (born 27 July 1951 in Västerås) is a Swedish chess player.

Life

In 1969, he won the Swedish single master. In 1970 he became International Champion, 1972 Grand Master. He succeeded three times to win in a row, the traditional tournament of Hastings. 1978, 1979 and 1980, he had his greatest successes in the 1980s, when he pushed forward six times in the top ten of the FIDE world ranking list ( its highest Elo rating was then 2640 ).

His tournament successes include victories in Dortmund in 1978, London 1980 and 1982 and Turin in 1982 and Reggio Emilia in 1986.

In 1984, he played in London on 1 board in the world selection in competition USSR against the rest of the world. He defeated the then World Champion Anatoly Karpov scarce ( 0, -1, = 3).

The end of 1984 he participated in the Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki and played on the first board for Sweden.

In the 1990s, Andersson discovered correspondence chess for themselves. He took part in 1994 at a remote Tournament for the 50th anniversary of the Norwegian correspondence chess federation and here proved to all correspondence chess experts as superior: 11.5 / 14, he became the sole winner. The ICCF then gave him the title of Correspondence Chess Grandmaster. Andersson played some more successful remote tournaments in the 1990s, after which his correspondence chess Elo reached the record level of 2805. As of November 15, 2008 he is # 2 in the Correspondence Chess World Ranking with an ELO of 2737th

In 1996 he set a record in simultaneous chess: He played in 15 Hours, 23 Minutes 310 games, of which he won 268, 40 played a draw and only two lost.

Andersson, who has retreated somewhat from correspondence chess, playing in the last few years with great passion flash and bullet games in the ICC. He is regarded with more than 75,000 (as of December 2005) as one of the games played spielfreudigsten Grand Master there. Some years Andersson played in the chess Bundesliga at multiple German team champion SG Porz. He is known for his positional sound and style is particularly true in the final to be very strong. He is also considered a pioneer and expert in the hedgehog position.

His current Elo rating is 2569 (as of July 2012). His previous highest Elo FIDE was 2655 in January 1997. His best historical Elo rating of 2743, he reached in October 1983. He lay thus for several months at number three in the world rankings.
