Uljana Semjonova

Ulyana Semjonova (Russian Ульяна Ларионовна Семёнова, Ulyana Semyonova Larionowna; born March 9, 1952 in Zarasai, Lithuanian SSR ) is a retired Latvian basketball player.

The parents lived in Medumi in Daugavpils. At 13, the tall Ulyana moved to Riga. She began her training in basketball there under the guidance of her first coach raping August. In 1967 won Semjonova - now under the guidance of coach Viktor Strupovics - with the students selected team of the Latvian SSR in the USSR Schülerspartakiade their first gold medal. At 15, she has already played in the adult team.

In the years 1967-1989 the 2.12 m wide Semjonova played in the Riga women's team for basketball, the TTT Riga. This team has been immortalized as a 18- time European Cup winner in the Guinness Book of Records. Also a record was their shoe size 58

From 1968 to 1986 Semjonova played in the national team of the USSR. Semjonova is 15 times USSR champion, 10- time European Champion, three - time world champion and two - time Olympic gold medalist in basketball.

On 10 May 1993 she was nominated as the first European woman for the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield (Massachusetts ). She received the honorary diploma of the International Fair Play Committee in 1995. Semjonova since 1991, President of the Social Fund of the Latvian Olympic athletes. For her achievements, she was awarded in 1995 as an officer of the Three Star Order.
