Ulla Werbrouck

Ulla Werbrouck ( born January 24, 1972 in Izegem ) is a Belgian judoka and politician. She is seven -time European champion and 1996 Olympic gold medalist.

Werbrouck was from the mid 1990s to the strongest judokas in the world. She celebrated her first international success in 1994 with the title of European Champion in the category up to 72 kg. The title could successfully defend three times (1995, 1996, 1997). After the reorganization of weight classes, it was still three times in the category up to 70 kg European Champion ( 1998, 1999, 2001).

Your successful career she was crowned at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, where she was Olympic champion in light heavyweight. For this performance, she was elected to her homeland in 1996 Athlete of the Year.

In 2007 she was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. She went to the LDD, which was founded and led by her former judo coach Jean -Marie Dedecker. In 2009 she moved to the Flemish Parliament.
