Municipal House Ulmiz

Ulmiz is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The French name of the municipality is Ormey.

Geography

Ulmiz is located on 494 m above sea level. M., 7 km east of the district town of Murten (air line). The scattered village extends into the valley of Biberen, Molassehügelland in the northern Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhône glacier Molassehöhen between the Great Marsh in the north- west and the Saanen valley in the east. The area is crossed from south to north of the Biberen in a shallow valley. To the east of the valley extends the community area on the heights of the forest Wanner, Chrüzfeld, Hubel and own (all around 530 m asl. ); in the south includes the Tannholz to Ulmiz. To the west of the municipality floor extends to the adjacent plateau of Galmfelds ( 555 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Ulmiz ), to the brink of Galmwalds and in the Berleidwald (552 m above sea level. M. ). The northwestern boundary runs in the valley of the village of Bach's Lurtigen. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 25 % of forest and woody plants and 69% to agriculture.

To Ulmiz heard the southern part of the hamlet Chäppelimatt as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Ulmiz are Gempenach, Lurtigen, Gurmels and any community associated region of the state forest Galm in the Canton of Fribourg and Kriechenwil and Ferenbalm in the Canton of Bern.

Population

With 403 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ulmiz one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the residents 96.7 % are German, 2.5 % French-speaking and 0.3 % speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Ulmiz amounted in 1900 to 420 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased by strong migration to 1980 by almost 40 % to 262 persons. Since then, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Ulmiz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operation for process engineering as well as in a furniture and a sports shop. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Murten and Kerzers and in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed, even though it is off the major thoroughfares on a road from Kerzers after Gurmels. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern -Lausanne ) is located about 5 km from the center. By Postbus course, which runs from Kerzers after Duedingen, Ulmiz is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was 1200 as Hulmeis, 1250 was a nomination under the name Ulmitz in the meaning of elm grove. From 1390, the French version Ormeis is preserved. Since the Middle Ages Ulmiz belonged to the rule Murten, which was under the House of Savoy supremacy. 1475 reached the village as part of the bailiwick of Murten under the joint administration of the estates of Bern and Fribourg. On the evening of June 21, 1476, the day before the Battle of Murten, the Confederates directed a camp for the night at Ulmiz.

After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) Ulmiz came to the Canton of Fribourg. During the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time it belonged to the district of Murten, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.

Attractions

Ulmiz has a well-preserved townscape with characteristic houses from the 17th to 19th centuries. These include the host house, the school house, the cheese and the fire house. The former Church of Ulmiz was demolished in the 18th century. Today the church belongs to the parish Ferenbalm.
