Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark

Ulrike Eleonora of Denmark (* September 11, 1656 in Copenhagen, † July 26, 1693 in Castle Karlberg in Stockholm ) was a Danish-Norwegian princess and by marriage to Charles XI. Queen of Sweden.

Life

Ulrike Eleonore was the daughter of King Frederick III. of Denmark and his wife Sophie Amalie of Brunswick- Lüneburg. It was excellently educated and trained by her ambitious mother. 1675 she was awarded the Swedish King Karl XI. engaged. Since the same year the war broke out between Denmark and Sweden around the countryside Skåne, the wedding was postponed. After the peace agreement in 1680, she married and was Ulrika Eleonora as Queen of Sweden. Despite the political reasons for the marriage, the marriage was happy. Ulrika Eleonora had no political influence in Sweden, where the absolute monarchy was established in the year of their marriage. The queen took care of the poor and sick. She was also a talented artist.

According to her is called the Admiralty Church in Karlskrona Ulrica Pia.
