Ulryk Hozjusz

Ulrich Hosse ( * ca 1455 Pforzheim, † 1535 Vilnius ) worked for a time for Sigismund I. in Krakow as Master of the Mint. From there he went as master of the mint to Vilnius in Lithuania, where he also became mayor later.

Ulrich Hosse supported the teaching of Luther and the Reformers in Vilnius. According to sales contracts, he acquired land in Vilnius and donated bricks to buildings, the Augsburg Confession as obeyed later the Evangelical Church.

His son Johann Hosius was also mayor of Vilnius and donated more bricks to build.

1524 Ulrich Hosse was probably excommunicated because of his support of the Reformation.

His son Stanislaus Hosius was very different and was bishop, then Prince-Bishop of Warmia, still a cardinal and was keen advocate of the Roman Catholic Church. He and Martin Kromer were the main characters that did not concern against the Reformation in the Prussian Warmia, as the largest part of Prussia was Protestant.
