The Expressway 16, also known as Ulsan Expressway ( Kor. 울산 고속도로, RR Ulsan Gosok Doro ), is a freeway in South Korea. As the name suggests, this runs motorway towards Ulsan, a metropolitan city and industrial center in the Southeast. The highway connects the city with the Ulsan Expressway 1, the North-South axis of the country. The highway is 14 km long.

Street Description

The highway begins at node Eonyang, west of Ulsan, the first highway north of the city of Busan. The highway has 2x2 lanes and runs through a narrow valley in the east. Shortly before Ulsan is an intersection with the 65 Expressway, which connects Ulsan Busan. After the toll booth, and two exits follows. The highway ends west of Ulsan.

History

In 1962 it was decided to build a highway to Ulsan. Reason for the building were the large industrial complexes in the city and the access to the interior. Construction began in 1969, as well as the first expressway was built. The highway was completed after six months of construction on 4 June 1969. On 24 July 2008 the section between the toll and Ulsan has been completed on eight lanes.
