Umberto Pasquale

Umberto Maria Pasquale SDB ( born September 1, 1906 in Vignole Borbera; † March 5, 1985 in Rivoli ) was an Italian religious priest and writer.

Life

Umberto Maria Pasquale grew up in Val Borbera. At thirteen, he came to the Salesians of Don Bosco in Turin after Valdocco and met until 1921. He wanted to join the Order and go to the mission that his father but did not allow. Instead, he joined the seminary in the diocese of Stazzono Tortona. However, early thirties, he left the seminary and returned to the Salesians. After the novitiate in Borgomanero and the first profession he enlisted in 1932 as a missionary to Colombia. Instead him but his superiors sent in 1933 on a transitional basis to Lisbon in Portugal, where he was ordained on December 21, 1935 at the Lisbon Patriarchate by Cardinal Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira a priest.

1937 appointed novice master, he founded a Novitiate in Mogofores. In the forties, he moved to Porto and called the Salesian publishing " Edições Salesianas " in Portugal to life.

He learned the mystic Alexandrina Maria da Costa (1905-1955), who became beatified on 25 April 2005 by Pope John Paul II. On September 8, 1944, he became her spiritual director for four years. He talked to her to live a spiritual journal, and was soon also her biographer.

Pasquale returned in 1948 to Turin in the Piedmont, but a regular letter and correspondence between them continued to exist until da Costa died in 1955.

After him in 1965 the Archbishop of Braga, the organization of the beatification process for Alexandrina Maria da Costa entrusted, he went 1967-1973 once again to Portugal. After he had brought on May 7, 1973, even the collected documents to Rome, he was in the Italian publishing house active in Rivoli near Turin and lived there until his death.
