The Umeå University ( Umeå universitet Swedish ) is a Swedish national university in Umeå in Västerbotten. It is the fifth oldest university in Sweden and was founded in 1965. She is a member of the University of the Arctic.

History

In the 19th century they discussed the establishment of a university in northern Sweden. The basis was the relatively low level of education of the population and a shortage of lawyers, doctors and teachers in the region.

Organization

The supreme body of the university is the University Council, which decides on the distribution of resources within the university. The highest representatives of the university is the rector.
