UMngeni Local Municipality
UMngeni (English uMngeni Local Municipality ) is a town in South Africa's District uMgungundlovu in the province of KwaZulu -Natal. The administrative center of the municipality is located in the town of Howick. Mbuzelwa Edward Dladla is the mayor. The ANC represents the majority in the City Council.
The municipality is named after the River Mngeni. The Zulubegriff uMngeni stands for, place of acacias '. 2007, the municipality had 84 781 inhabitants according to projections. It covers an area of 1566 square kilometers.
Geography
UMngeni located in the center of the district and borders the following municipalities: the north is Mpofana, northeast uMshwathi. In the south, bordering Msunduzi and Impendle to uMngeni. In the west, the municipality has a short border sections with the District Management Areas Mkhomazi Wilderness Area and Highmoor / Kamberg Park.
The most important places in the community are Howick, Lidgetton, Lions River Dargle, Hilton and Merrivale.
Economy
The main economic pillars in the municipality are agriculture and tourism. In uMngeni forestry operations. There are many manufactured dairy products and also cultivated vegetables.
