Uncle Tupelo

Uncle Tupelo was an alternative country band of the 1990s. She combined punk and rock music with elements of country music.

Band History

The American band was founded in 1987 in Belleville, Illinois. The founding members were Jay Farrar (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Mike Heidorn (drums), and Jeff Tweedy (bass, guitar, harmonica, vocals). Other members were Ken Coomer (drums ), Max Johnston ( banjo, dobro, fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar ) and John Stirratt ( bass). Farrar and Tweedy were the leaders of the band, who split songwriting.

After Farrar unexpectedly left the band, they broke up in May 1994 to all. Tweedy formed the band Wilco, and Farrar Son Volt.

All four albums were re-released by Columbia / Legacy and Rhino Entertainment in 2003.
