Unguja

Unguja is the main island of the Zanzibar archipelago, a Tanzanian island region, located directly off the East African coast of Tanzania. The island of Unguja is or was formerly known as Zanzibar itself.

Geography

Unguja is about 83 km long and up to 37 km wide. Off the west coast there are numerous smaller minor islands, of which Tumbatu is the largest.

Zanzibar town, the island's capital and capital of the Tanzanian part of the state of Zanzibar, located on the west coast of Unguja.

Traffic

The international airport of Zanzibar Kisauni Airport is also located in the west of Unguja.

On the island of Unguja ( with smaller islands ) are three of the 26 administrative regions of Tanzania:
