Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland

( ZGWŻ Polish Związek Gmin Wyznaniowych Żydowskich w RP abbreviated ) The Association of Jewish faith communities in the Republic of Poland, a religious connection is formed by the Polish Jews living in Poland.

Description

It was originally founded as Związek Religijny wyznania Mojżeszowego ( religious community of Judaism ) in 1949. In 1992 the organization was renamed Związek Gmin Wyznaniowych Żydowskich w RP. The headquarters of the Organization is in Warsaw, with seven branches throughout Poland. The association consists of eight Jewish communities, as Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz, Szczecin, Katowice, Bielsko- Biała and Legnica. The smaller Jewish communities are subordinated to the branches. ZGWŻ has approximately 2000 members (as of 1998). The ZGWŻ operates seven active synagogues, the Nożyk Synagogue in Warsaw, the temple and the synagogue Remuh Synagogue in Krakow, the rich synagogue in Lodz Lublin Yeshiva Chachmei in the synagogue in Lublin, the New Synagogue in Gdansk - Wrzeszcz and the Stork synagogue in Wroclaw. In addition, 15 prayer houses. The ZGWŻ publishes its own journal as well as the well-known Jewish calendar Kalendarz Żydowski. Up to 1997, was president of the ZGWŻ Paweł Wildenstein, to 2003, Jerzy Kichler and since 2003 is Piotr Kadlčík President of ZGWŻ. The activities of the ZGWŻ be financed by the financial reserves of the Association and the Joint Distribution Committee ( JDC ). Also, the Ministry of Culture of Poland and other sponsors to finance the association.
