Unit train

A unit train, also block train is a freight train, which travels from place of departure to the unloading point as a unit without intermediate stops. Thus, the block trains over the single wagonload traffic is faster and cheaper. The railway system can thus bring their advantages compared to trucks and partly inland waterways expressed.

Trains move wherever large quantities of loaded goods are to be transported ( bulk cargo ). Optical trains are usually the reason to realize that they are compiled from the car or charge the same type, the color may vary.

Use

Typical is the unit train for the transport of bulk materials such as gravel or crushed stone. In Mont property they are used specifically for the transport of:

  • Ore from the port into the steel mill or
  • Coal from the port or the mine to the power plant.

Liquid bulk cargo such as chemicals are transported in trains that consist of tank cars, for example:

  • Petroleum products from the refinery to storage tanks.

Also in the transport of cargo trains are used, for example, of cars from the factory to the warehouse or in the port of shipment.

Also container or Klv trains run directly from terminal to terminal, run like a complete train.

Designation

Trains were formerly known with the Gag Zuggattungskürzel, today's designation is CT (English Complete Train). However, not every block train a CT.
