United Democratic Left

The Eniea Dimokratiki Aristera (Greek Eniéa Dimokratiki Aristera Ενιαία Δημοκρατική Αριστερά, Union of Democratic Left ', abbreviated DFA) was mainly active in the years before the Greek military dictatorship political party in Greece.

Foundation

The party was founded as a merger of several left-wing parties in July 1951 by well-known left-wing politicians, many of whom were former members of the People's Liberation Army, ELAS (Greek Ελληνικός / Εθνικός Λαϊκός Απελευθερωτικός Στρατός [ ΕΛΑΣ ] ). It was originally intended as a substitute for or a political arm of the outlawed Communist Party of Greece (KKE ), but it became a private pluralistic and more moderate profile.

Development

The EDA participated in all elections in Greece from 1952 to 1964 in part. In the parliamentary elections in 1958, it became the largest opposition party with a vote share of 24.42 per cent.

In the parliamentary elections in 1961 and 1964, the EDA Enosis Kendrou supported indirectly ( EK, Centre Union ) against the Ethniki Enosis Rizospastiki (ERE, National Radical Union). 1961 and 1963 it reached 14.34 percent of voting shares and 11.8 percent in 1964.

Before the parliamentary elections in 1963, Greece experienced political turmoil after the assassination of Grigoris Lambrakis EDA - MPs. EDA and the EK blamed for the murder of Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis and his National Radical Union EUA. Partial violent demonstrations vulnerable to political stability. An independent investigation by the investigating judge Christos Sartzetakis came to the conclusion that extreme right-wing groups with ties to police and secret service were responsible for the assassination, but a direct involvement of leading circles could not be detected.

During the Greek military dictatorship from 1967 to 1974, the EDA and its members were persecuted by the regime.

Resolution

After the restoration of democracy in the ΕDΑ came under the leadership of prominent Greek politician Ilias Iliou links in the parliamentary elections in 1974 in an alliance of the United Left and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE ) and other left-wing parties to; the United Left came to 9.89 percent. When choosing 1977 she joined forces with the KKE Esoterikou ( ' domestic KKE ') to (2.72 percent). 1981 and 1985, she only appeared in Connections list with the Panhellenic Socialist Movement " Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima " (PASOK ).

Lambrakis Youth

Founded in September 1964, already in June 1963 after the assassination of EDA - MPs Grigoris Lambrakis first as Democratic Youth Movement Grigoris Lambrakis (Greek Δημοκρατική Κίνηση Νέων Γρηγόρης Λαμβράκης [ ΔΚΝΓΛ ] ) was Democratic Lambrakis Youth (Greek Δημοκρατική Νεολαία Λαμπράκη ) with the youth organization of the EDA combined. The " Lambrakiden " presented a dynamic political youth organization; they played especially in the fierce, from partly violent demonstrations accompanied, disputes the mid-sixties an active role, but were also engaged in educational work and about for the electrification of villages.
