United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space ( English Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, COPUOS ), the Space Committee of the United Nations (UN ). This standing committee was established by the UN General Assembly on December 12, 1959 by Resolution 1472 as an instrument for the development of space law.

COPUOS has three committees each meet once a year:

  • A Main Committee and two subcommittees: the scientific and technical subcommittee WTUA (Chairman: Dr. Ulrich Huth ) and
  • Its legal subcommittee ( RUA ).
