United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3379

Resolution 3379 entitled " Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination " (English: Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination ) was adopted on 10 November 1975 by the UN General Assembly. You said that Zionism was a form of racism and racial discrimination. They also put Israel on a par with South Africa and Rhodesia.

The resolution was adopted by 72 votes to 35 with 32 abstentions. The votes came mainly from Arab countries, from Third World countries and the Eastern bloc (including the Soviet Union and the German Democratic Republic). Most Western countries (including the U.S. and the Federal Republic of Germany ) voted against the resolution. In addition, the United States boycotted the first two UN racism conference in 1978 and 1983.

After the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, the controversial resolution on 16 December 1991 by the UN General Assembly by 111 votes to 25 with 13 abstentions withdrawn ( resolution 46 /86). No Arab state voted for the withdrawal. 1998 designated UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan Resolution 3379 as a " low point " of the history of the United Nations. After announcement of the Israeli Foreign Ministry of Israel had made his participation in the Madrid peace conference in 1991 by the withdrawal of the resolution -dependent.
